Power converters for high speed electrical machines
High speed electrical machines for aerospace, wind or
co-generation applications need power converters tailored to produce
high frequency waveforms using only reduced switching frequency to do
not compromise efficiency. In the design of such power converters there
will be analyzed new multilevel and multicell topologies and new design
trends such as those based on the Power Electronics Building Block.
Hence new modulation strategies and current control strategies will be
needed. There will be designed hardware platforms to measure the
electrical quantities, control them using DSP and FPGA, driving of the
semiconductors and the due protections. The aim will be to guarantee
the operation at elevated frequencies, without compromising the
efficiency and minimizing the encumbrance due to the harmonic filtering
stage typically required in traditional passive solutions
