Marco Torresi was born in Rome, Italy,
on January 1973. He
received the Laurea degree and the Ph.D. degree in Mechanical
Engineering from the Politecnico di Bari University, Italy, in 2001 and
2007 respectively. Since January 2005 he is an Assistant Professor at
Politecnico di Bari University, Department of Mechanical and Management
Engineering. He teaches a course in Energy Systems at Politecnico di
Bari University. His research interests include the experimental and
numerical investigation of turbines for renewable energy applications,
such as the Wells turbine for harnessing wave energy and mainly
Vertical Axis Wind turbines (both of the Savonius and Darrieus type).
The experimental activity is carried out at the new closed loop,
subsonic, wind tunnel located in the Fluid-dynamic Laboratory of the
Politecnico di Bari University, whilst the numerical activity is mainly
carried out by means of a commercial Finite-Volume CFD code, which
solves the Navier-Stokes equations. He is also involved in the
experimental and numerical activity on MILD combustion. He is the
author or co-author of about 20 scientific papers on these topics (2 on
peer-reviewed international journals).
